In today’s episode, Dr. Cheryl discusses the implications of a Vegan Influencer’s untimely death and the challenges of extreme dietary restrictions. She touches on different types of vegan diets, from whole food plant-based to highly restrictive approaches like raw veganism and fruitarianism. She then explores the potential dangers of restrictive diets, including nutrient deficiencies and mental health issues.
The conversation delves into the complexities of diet research, including epidemiological studies and the challenges of long-term clinical trials. Dr. Cheryl shares insights from her own research, where she tested two plant-forward diets, one aligned with American Heart Association guidelines and another focusing on whole food plant-based options. Surprisingly, participants on the whole food plant-based diet showed better outcomes in terms of weight loss and cholesterol reduction in just 10 days. She concludes by emphasizing the importance of a balanced and well-planned approach to veganism and dietary choices.
